TheraGood Deeds mission is to provide a mentorship and outreach program for our future achievers, with guidance and support; to inspire them to become successful individuals within their personal lives, families, and communities.
“Impacting the World, One Good Deed at a Time”
IMPACTING OUR YOUTH TO STAY FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE THINGS IN LIFE, ONE GOOD DEED AT A TIME!
Our vision is to expand our outreach by traveling abroad and impacting the world One Good Deed at a time.
TheraGood Deeds is a nonprofit organization that provides mentoring, counseling and outreach opportunities to encourage a positive impact on youth also known as Future Achievers. TheraGood Deeds rely on the support of volunteers, grantors, and corporations interested in providing life improvements to families and communities.
Since the inception in 2010, TheraGood Deeds has grown from a one on one mentoring program to having ongoing opportunities for the Future Achievers to experience outreach opportunities and personal development. Future Achievers are taught that a good deed is defined as an act of kindness, accommodation, generosity, or charity, performed with the simple intention of being helpful to others. Future Achievers are challenged to always think positively and perform Good Deeds not only for themselves, but for society as a whole. They are also encouraged to set short- and long-term goals by identifying and accomplishing their aspirations.
TheraGood Deeds currently serves the Houston area disadvantaged communities such as Third Ward, Kashmere Gardens and Garden Villas. TheraGood Deeds is a vital program that attempts to provide resources and encouragement to youth in fragmented communities it serves. Although, these resources are generally tangible we tend to focus more on the intangible gifts of hope, education, and empowerment. These are the kind of possessions that stay with our youth for a lifetime and give them the tools they need to become independent and productive individuals.
OUR VISION STATEMENT
Sheldon TheraGood is a native Houstonian. Mr. TheraGood attended Jack Yates High School and continued his education at Texas Southern University and also received his master's at Prairie View A&M University. Upon graduation, Mr. TheraGood began his tenure with Harris County as a Youth Detention Officer. It was during this time that Mr. TheraGood was given the vision of TheraGood Deeds. The organization’s name stems from our founder’s last name, Theragood. The addition of Deeds is a reflection of the positive standard that Mr. Theragood bases his life on daily.
Mr. Theragood often came into contact with distressed youth while working at the detention center. After lending a listening ear and providing a little positive reinforcement the youth began to confide in Mr. Theragood their dreams and aspirations. It was in this moment, that Mr. Theragood realized it was the job of adults, such as him to offer hope to distressed adolescents who had somehow lost their way.
Mr. Theragood has found the need to maintain a relationship with kids to give back to the communities while building relationships with the youth instilling that it's far more rewarding to pay it forward with their time and their talents. This premise teaches them how to become positive leaders and role models in youth lives.
Mr. Theragood challenges himself, as well as others, to perform a Good Deed daily. It can be as powerful as giving the elderly a helping hand, telling someone they look nice today, providing meals to the homeless, or participating in charitable events. Mr. Theragood believes there are plenty of positives attributes in one’s life or community that can be used to maintain a positive outlook.
